Storm Damage October 9th, 2017 in Northern California One of the thousands of homes destroyed by the fire

In the late hours of Sunday night, October eighth, twenty seventeen, as Sonoma and Napa County residence get ready for the coming work week, disaster is starting to smolder. With winds blowing at hurricane speeds, and electrical issues playing a factor, fires erupted throughout the night, bringing with it, destruction and fear for many citizens, including our neighbors in Sonoma County. With people being awoken in the middle of the night and having to escape their homes, to other families getting calls from friends to evacuate, a fire storm had descended upon the county full force. 5,700 structures were burned, while the majority were burned all the way to the ground, leaving behind only their chimneys, and a pile of rubble. The devastation and destruction that went along with this was record breaking and heart stopping. For days, people were out of work, staying home, waiting for the news that they too would have to evacuate their homes, possibly to never see it again. Today, is November eighth, one month later, and we are all still effected by this tragic event and probably will be for months and years to come. One thing we will have to remember is together we can get through to the other side. We are #SonomaStrong

Storm Damage Neighbors in Need The Historical Round Barn

Santa Rosa is 184 years old, and is the 26th most populated city in California as of 2010. There are 482 municipalities (cities and towns) in California. Santa Rosa is twenty-six.... This shows the extent of how large of a city they are. They are large and have a long history, one to be proud of, with over eight museums, and countless land marks. Santa Rosa is in our neighboring county, Sonoma County. Sonoma and Napa Counties are close and tight knit communities that have been know for years to America and wine connoisseurs as Wine Country. Well once again Santa Rosa is on the map.... but this time not for wine but because of a horrific and devastating fire. Our hearts are broken as we see our neighbors brought to their knees from a fire that caught us all off guard. While many of lost their homes, they look for comfort from their community, trying to see familiar landmarks, and yet again are brought up short as so many are no longer. Many landmarks and schools were destroyed and one that hit home for the masses was the historic Fountaingrove Round barn that sat on a hill as if it was the welcoming committee to people traveling south bound into Santa Rosa. Everyone is shaken by the destruction but they will rebuild and we are here for they in this time of need. We are working closely with our sister franchise, SERVPRO of Santa Rosa S.E./Sonoma, to help with the large work load, assisting the community to get back to normal and make it, "#Likeitneverevenhappened"

Storm Damage Rainy Season Water damage due to roof leak

As we enter the end of 2017, we also enter into rainy season in Northern California. While this feels like a welcomed occurrence following our devastating fire storm, we have to stay prepared. As we've begun to experience rain, here at SERVPRO, we've begun to get calls reporting water damage. As you can see in this picture, there is removed drywall ceiling, reveling wet insulation, due to a leak in the roof. We had to act fast of course to prevent mold, but we ask for your vigilance as well. Before consistent rain hits, clean your gutters and if you are able, get your roof examined for any damage. We would like to have people prepared this season to prevent you from suffering a water damage. But if you do suffer from one, don't stress. Call us here at 415-763-2080 and we will make it "Like it never even happened."

Preventative Measures

Mold Remediation Preventative Measures A small bit of mold, growing in a poorly vented bathroom.

As we enter the winter month, and rain fall increases, we must be prepared for waters ugly friend; mold. Today we want to share with you some tips on preventing mold this winter.

1.) If possible, move furniture away from the walls (especially exterior wall) about an inch or two. This helps prevent moisture. Our furniture especially couches and beds, our much warmer then the brick winter air. As the walls are cold, and our furniture warm, is causes condensation IE. moisture, which can easily lead to mold if unattended.

2.) Wipe the moisture up in your bathroom if you have bath ventilation or no windows. Bathrooms are huge culprit of mold because of the moisture in the air and warm temperature due to showers. If you have high shower ceilings, maybe once every few days wipe them down, or if moisture pools by the windows, wipe that regularly as well.

3.) And lastly, if you have single pane windows, which many older homes do, be careful. Not only should you wipe your windows regularly, but you should also try and have your blinds open, whenever you can. At night, when you put your blinds down, don't let it rest of the window seal. Leave about a half inch for the window to 'breath'

We hope these help in preventing mold.

**DISCLAIMER** These tips are meant to help you prevent mold but we cannot guarantee that mold won't still find a way in your home or business. We do hope these tips help though.

It lets everyone involved see where the water is. Does Your Marin County Home Have A Mold Problem?

8/23/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Does Your Marin County Home Have A Mold Problem? In Marin County, mold can spread through a home in as little as 48 hours.

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.
