Fire, Water, Mold!
This job was very complex. this clients home caught on fire, then the sprinkler system, plus the fire hoses got water everywhere, and then there was mold. This poor client has fight the dreaded trifecta. In these situations, there are many steps our cleaning technicians have to go through to renew the items. First there is the drying out process. Then there is the process of finding the items that do and do not have mold on them. The once that do have mold will be Fire Damaged and insurance will handle all the details that go with that. The items that have been dried out will now be cleaned. Our techs will use special tools and products to remove as much soot as possible, if not all of it. Some burn marks might remain but we work to get all of the soot. After this the items that still have a lingering smell will be put in the ozone. Sometimes we will re-clean certain items and run it through the ozone for a second time. Through this process we achieve SERVPRO standard you and your family deserve.

Details Are Everything!
A technician going through a box of personal papers that need cleaning
We know from years of experience that it is the little things that matter. When a fire strikes, people first think of their home itself, then their furniture and electronics. But after people have time to think more important things start to come to mind: Birth Certificates, Marriage Licenses and Divorce Papers, sentimental cards and keepsakes. People care very much for all this and more. Like a box of baby close from their children they wanted to pass down etc.. No one thinks about this, at first that is. This is why we clean every piece of paper and card and every item we take. If it is "Un-save-able" we would never dispose of your possessions without consent, but we try our very hardest to save as much as possible, to make it "Like it never even happened."
Where Water Goes, SERVPRO Follows!
Water goes everywhere, and we mean everywhere. When there is a water damage job and we first come out, our technicians have moister readers. These readers are fantastic and help us know exactly where the water went and how wet it is in each particulate area. We will then monitor how each area dries. We will keep a log of each material.
-Sub Floor -Door Frame -Dry wall -Concrete -Slab Carpet etc...
Each day we will come out and check how things are drying. This enables us to know which materials to remove from the home. If an item like carpet or a door framing isn't drying at the proper rate, we know it is not savable and will remove it before mold can grow and have a party in your water damaged areas. When you have a water damage, water can get everywhere but us here at SERVPRO of Novato/North San Rafael will follow that water and eliminate it in order to make it "Like it never even happened."
Mold that has had time to grow on some fabric
Mold is not widely understood. People think if they aren't looking under their kitchen sink or in their bathroom, that weird looking stuff can't be mold... Can it? Well indeed it can. Say you wash your clothes. You washed a sweater you don't want any dust to get on, so you put it into those big plastic bags that protect your clothes while in the closet. What you didn't notice was that one of the sleeves was still wet. Six weeks goes by and you want to wear that sweater again, but wait! Where did all the mold come from? When you stuck a wet fabric inside of a closed plastic bag, you gave mold the perfect home to flourish. At this point the sweater should be replaced and you should wash all surrounding items that were stored near said sweater. If you feel you have a mold problem please call us at (415)763-2080
Soot is extremely difficult to clean if you do not have the proper tools and solutions. We here at SERVPRO take extreme care with all items we clean. Sometimes the soot is so dark you can not even see what is behind it. For example this jar in this photo you see here, you cannot tell that there are rocks inside. Not only do we clean this jar till it is soot free but we also scrub hard till it is spic and spam. They we make sure to clean the rocks, for a small amount of soot crept into the jar, giving the rocks a thin layer of soot themselves. It is jobs like these were it is extremely noticeable that we do indeed make it "Like it never even happened."
Water You Didn't Mop Up
Under the kitchen cabinets

The water that went under the cabinets was never dried. Now who do we know loves wet homes? Mold. Yup, mold grew and grew. As you can see in this picture, it was still very wet under the cabinets and this caused the mold problem. We made sure to remove all the affected areas and dry what could be saved. So make sure if you have a water problem call SERVPRO of Novato/North San Rafael at (415) 763-2080 to clean it up! "Like it never even happened."

Busted Pipe in a Two Story Condo
One of our clients had a pipe bust in her upstairs master bathroom which caused an abundance of damage! The water went into her attic, down the stairs to her living room, dining room, kitchen, and garage. This client fortunately caught the leak very quickly and the pipe was only broken for about four hours while she was out of the house. If the leak wasn't noticeable and sat for an extended amount of time, it could have caused mold and a larger amount of damage into even more areas of her home. This quick response time is one major reason her home was taken care of so well. Our cleaning crew was able to get out there and pack up everything so that our production technicians could come in. They then began demo and put up containment barriers to then dry out all areas effected by the water damage. This client was so happy to see that SERVPRO of Novato/N. San Rafael truly makes it "Like it never even happened."
